During Ramadan more than a billion people around the world abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, and sex from dawn to sunset for a one-month period each year. Fasting is one of the Five Pillars of the religion of Islam and considered one of the highest forms of Islamic worship. Abstinence from earthly pleasures and curbing evil intentions and desires is regarded as an act of obedience and submission to Allah.
Matthew and I were in the district of Namuno, which has a high percentage Muslims during the month of Ramadan. We camped right next to the Mosque. Within a few hundred feet of the Mosque we showed the Jesus film, attracting over 1,000 people. We went to Namuno to train Christian leaders, pray for the sick, and preach the gospel. I was able to meet with some of the Muslim leaders who were actually very kind and hospitable.
